OzAsia Festival’s Artist in Schools resident, Jingwei Bu, brings daily life to the walls of Children’s Artspace through performative drawings made in collaboration with children aged 3-7 at Elizabeth Downs Primary School, Flagstaff Oval Kindergarten, Lantana Kindergarten, and Liberman Kindergarten.
Since 2016, Life Maps has explored memory, movement, and ritual with simple yet profound marks – green dots to go, red dots to stop, black dots for happenings, and black lines tracing life’s steps.
Jingwei was born in Inner Mongolia, worked in Beijing, studied in England, lived in Germany, and is now based in Tarntanya/Adelaide as practicing artist. Her multidisciplinary practice traverses drawing, moving image, performance, and installation to capture the essence of time and experience in her work. Re-enacting ritual and repetition, influenced by Buddhist Chan philosophy, her work is responsive, experimental, and participatory. Each artwork tells a unique story, reflecting the diverse experiences of life.
